BCU 5 Star Training at Nigel Dennis’s Anglesey Sea & Surf, North Wales, U.K.
June and late Sept of each year

For those ready for a BCU 5 Star level Training, you’ll be visiting one of the best paddling areas in the British Isles with, easy access to world famous tide races, Atlantic Ocean surf, off shore islands, 600’ cliffs with caves and arches, remote beaches and inquisitive seals. At the end of the day you’ll be deeply immersed in the pub life of Nigel Dennis’s dedicated group of world level expeditioners. There folks are the real deal, and these waters cause most of us from the US to understand why the Brits are world level sea kayakers. This is a unique environment, Celtic culture, historic ruins back to the Stone Age, traditional pubs... and real world paddling. We will be staying on edge of Holyhead near the harbor. Prior experience required, 4 Star advised.

Mexico! Isla Tiburon, Sea of Cortez
Feb/March

One of the larger islands in the Sea of Cortez, and ancestral home of the Seri Indians, known for their Ironwood carvings, Tiburon is normally closed to outsiders. With the Seri’s blessings we are able to access this unusual area far from the normal tourist routes, and rich in indigenous flora and fauna. Tiburon’s interior mountains soar nearly 3,000' above its beaches, migrating whales and sea lions echoing off the cliffs. This area is basically undiscovered and offers high adventure trips for those seeking a true wilderness experience. Wild, raw, remote - it is best reserved for those committed to roughing it and familiar with the basics.

Venice, the lagoon and the Adriatic -April 16 to May 3, 2009

Venice is the daughter of the lagoon like Venus of the sea. In Venice boats mean more than cars, canals more than roads, and the only way one can say to have experienced the real Venice, is to have meandered the canals of the city and the lagoon by boat, and what better way to do that than by kayak.

We're operating with our Maine Registered Guides and BCU instructors along with area guides to provide a unique event sure to make even the most world-weary paddler's eyes grow wide with delight. From exploring hidden canals to the outer lagoon and islands we'll immerse ourselves in the history, natural wonders, traditions and the spectacle that is Venice. More details here.

Canadian Maritimes to Saint John, New Brunswick

This is one of our longer expeditions. You might start around Schoodic, Machias or Eastport before crossing into Canadian waters - so definitely bring your passport. This stretch of coast will remind you of the early explorers as you’ll experience lots of critters but few humans. Remember this brand of heaven is likely to be foggy, and the height of the tides gets well over 20 feet as you progress. You may want to be attentive around the faster moving waters of the Old Sow, one of the larger whirlpools on the Eastern seaboard, explore Campobello Island with its long beaches, dip into the abstract beauty of Passamaquoddy Bay. Maybe the weather will allow us to circumnavigate Gran Manan with its high cliffs, swift waters and soothing shores. If we need miles before we sleep, then lets turn the corner at Blacks Harbor for the longer journey to Saint John with its serious tidal rapids. Do you hear those Finbacks sounding over by the Wolf Islands? This area is known for its whales and porpoises - for the true adventurer looking for bold and beautiful, who can handle the stress of expeditioning, primitive camping, challenging paddling.
