NDK (Nigel Dennis Kayaks) are made in Anglesey Sea & Surf Center (Wales) under the direction of BCU Coach and world level expeditioner, Nigel Dennis. Nigel has encircled Cape Horn, the United Kingdom, Easter Island and journeyed in Antarctica and Points North. NDK sea kayaks are infamous for their rough water handling, solid secondary stability, superb fit and durable construction. We have logged thousands of hours in these boats and prefer them for nearly every situation we encounter. Model families include Romany, Explorer, Greenlander, and the Triton II double. With the exception of the Triton II, all NDK boats are available in three layups: Standard, Elite and Carbon/Kevlar.

Romany

The ROMANY 16 is a short, responsive, stable kayak both empty and loaded, excellent in following seas. Its super keyhole cockpit offers great fit for smaller to average size paddlers and allows for those with wider hips. The Romany tracks very well for its length; the high volume bow reduces plunging into waves. The maneuverability allows for good control in surf. Its comfort in rough water gives the paddler great confidence. One of the easiest rolling boats we know of. Originally designed as Nigel’s school boat, its broad function and high secondary stability makes it one of our favorite all around sea kayaks for day paddling, short trips, playing and instructing.

Romany LV

The ROMANY LV is specifically designed for the smaller paddler. It retains all of the characteristics of the Romany but the cockpit and fit is cut down for a maximum paddler of around 140 lbs. The LV kayaks have been fitted with a new keyhole cockpit rim customized to fit smaller kayakers. The rim is 3.5" shorter and 1" narrower allowing for better hip fit and allows for paddling with knees closer together. It has less internal volume and a redesigned front deck. We recommend the NDK foam seat in this boat.

Romany Surf

The ROMANY SURF, is designed as a day, play, short trip kayak for the larger paddler that wants that Romany performance. It has a wider keyhole cockpit than any other British made fiberglass sea kayak and has more volume in the rear to support the paddler’s extra weight and gear. The Romany Surf has higher initial stability than the Romany, and with its flatter hull and harder chines, it surfs even better…just ask Fiona Whitehead. The hull design offers maximum support and the shaped foredeck allows for larger feet.

Romany Excel

New Romany Excel is a new design but based on the Romany S. It’s an NDK for the 250lb + paddler. Designed to be a performance kayak for paddlers of this weight in advanced conditions. The wide point is just in front of the larger, longer keyhole cockpit. The hull has a flatter area below the cockpit to increase performance down wind and the kayak has boxy rails for good secondary stability.

Romany RM

New Romany RM is based on last year’s new Romany Surf. It is 16’2” so longer than the standard Romany with a bit more width in the stern to support the larger paddler. Cockpit rims and the adjustable seat are composite fiberglass and available in Orange, Red or Blue as standard, custom color available. All kayaks are yellow with a red fleck. Glued in foam bulkheads are standard.

Available in a triple dump or single dump. The triple dump shell weighs 23kg, single dump 20kg. The triple dump is stiffer but heavier, the single dump is susceptible to slight oil canning like most single dump construction. All have standard three hatch covers, 25 rdf ‘s, toggles and the kink-less Kari Teck slider skeg system.

Romany HV

Romany Surf

The Romany HV is the older version of the Romany Excel, and formerly known as Poseidon. This boat is designed for the larger paddler. It has softer chines than the Surf It has a wider keyhole cockpit than any other British made fiberglass sea kayak and has more volume in the rear to support the paddler’s extra weight and gear.
